Your Digital Footprint Walks with You

This video, Digital Dossier, has circulated for a while, and I often show it in class, encouraging the teachers in my graduate classes to use it with students, if appropriate, and to consider their own digital footprint.

What's your reaction to the video? Would you share it with students? Does the video make you reconsider what you share online?

  1. I would probably share something like this with my daughter when she becomes a teenager. I like to think that by not using facebook, etc, my tracks are less, but maybe it's not true - based on this video.

  2. The ideas presented in this video are very good for even younger than teenager children. I feel it should be part of cell phone and social media responsibility that children understand these footprints don't get washed away...

  3. Videos like this would be a good idea to share with students as a part of their teacher preparatory program. They should be aware that what they post online will follow them for the rest of their lives. As a responsible professional, knowledge of these digital footprints is key.

  4. This video was shared in my building last year and promoted several conversations with my coworkers. Most of the ideas presented were ideas that we had thought of, but never quite to that level. Like Jay and Maryann said, it is not just Facebook, but cell phones and other forms of technology and media that people have access to.

I hadn't thought about using this in my class last year, but I immediately thought about sharing it with my class as a social media reminder in connection to one of the classes I teach.

  5. With the amount of access that students have to technology, they should be educated about their digital footprint. It is important for students to understand how much responsibility is involved with maintaining their social lives through the web and information that they choose to share with different sites.

  6. This is a video that I will share with my teenage nephews. I often see their posts on Facebook & Vine and worry that they don't have a firm grasp on how their posts can effect them later in life.
